1. Do I need to have launched my own brand, organization or business, to receive a Fellowship?
No. We are looking for people working within different fields. If you work for an existing institution or operate solo, and lead an innovative project that contributes to change, you are eligible to apply.
2. Can I be working on a project as part of my current job?
Yes. You need to be in a leadership role on the project that centres art, and it should contribute to economic, social, or political change. For example, if you are working for the United Nations and leading a project that aims to increase the participation of women in peacebuilding through art, that counts.
3. Does my social change work need to have an art component for me to apply?
Yes. While there are many ways of attaining social change, GATHER Artivism Fellowship is tailor-made for those leaders using art as an effective medium to advance impact and is programmatically focused to support Artivists with particular skills, connections and resources. Therefore, art as an integral piece to your work is necessary to qualify for the Fellowship and get the most out of it.
4. What if I have a general idea for a project, but haven’t taken any actual steps yet?
Successful applicants will have already developed a model, prototype, pilot, or have other evidence that demonstrates the viability of their idea and its potential to create change. If you aren’t sure if your project qualifies, get in touch with us!
5. I am not a well-known artist or an established entrepreneur, but I do have a project that I think transforms conflict in my community through art. Am I still eligible?
YES! Perhaps you’re just on your way into the limelight but if you think your project is impactful, apply now. Fellows and their projects are not limited to any one particular field or project type.
6. Does my project need to have a cross-border component in order to count as conflict transformation?
No. Your project can address a conflict or injustice occurring within a community or country. Even if your goal is to impact a cross-border conflict, there are countless economic, social, and political efforts that must take place within borders in order to transform conflict and realize peace.
7. Can I apply for funds but not attend the in-person programs?
The GATHER Artivism Fellowship is a community-building process that is also introducing you to a vast array of professional skills and strategic connections. For that purpose and many others, your attendance at in-person programming is expected to be considered for this Fellowship.
8. Do I have to be featured on the GATHER website?
As well as other helpful resources, GATHER aims to offer its Fellows visibility and exposure through its own social media platforms as well as various press and media outlets. “We recognize that for some, visibility and exposure could threaten their personal security, and of course would never do anything to cause potential harm. Please know we take this very seriously and reach out to us with any questions or concerns.
