I am the founder of Kashmir Unheard, Kashmir’s first independent multimedia community news platform that makes it possible for Kashmiris to speak for themselves and tell their own stories.
I was born and raised in Indian-administered Kashmir, where I currently live and work as a journalist, and have witnessed human rights violations my entire life.
After receiving my Masters in Journalism and Mass Communication, I created Kashmir Unheard to amplify the voices of those marginalized in my community in ways too often neglected in traditional media outlets. I am building a platform so that both sides—Kashmiri Muslims and Kashmiri Pandits (Hindus)—can share their stories, their experiences, and their messages to each other.
“To better understand the political, social, cultural, and economic realities which shape my community, and to find solutions by connecting to my community, has been the focus of my work.”
