A day at Camp
This sample camper daily schedule is subject to change due to COVID-19 guidelines and programmatic changes, as well as camper input.
7:15 a.m. Optional Early bird activities
Sign in with a staff person to enjoy calm outdoor morning activities available to campers who wake up early like yoga, walking, jogging, or reading.
8 a.m. Wake Up
Wake up to sun shining through your window screen, to a new tune your bunkmate chose, or to the sounds of birds singing in the trees. Get dressed in your Seeds of Peace Camp t-shirt or sweatshirt.
8:30 a.m. Line up
Gather with the entire Camp in front of the lake (sitting with your bunk) to share inspirational quotes, performances, and the day’s announcements. Each morning, a different bunk is responsible for sharing a quote or story to set our intentions for the day.
8:45 a.m. Breakfast
Eat with your assigned table at a picnic table under our dining tent. Vegan, gluten-free options, etc. are available. Our Food Services Director will reach out to parents/guardians of youth regarding allergies before the start of Camp.
9:30 a.m. Bunk clean up
Everyone contributes to keeping our Camp environment clean, safe, and comfortable! Each Bunk has a chore chart, and you’ll contribute to cleaning our shared spaces while listening to fun music, singing new songs, or chatting with your new friends.
10 a.m. Special Activity
Activity designed and led by campers (that’s you!), counselors, facilitators, and other members of the Camp community. Campers choose the same Special Activity to participate in every day each week, so start thinking of passions you’d like to share with each other.
11 a.m. Activity/Dialogue
Some campers will be in Dialogue, where you share your own stories; learn to hear and see one another across our racial, religious, political, or gender differences; and build your ability to listen and navigate conflict with respect, empathy, and compassion.
Other campers will rotate through sports, creative arts, or waterfront activities, where you will discover new passions, learn new skills, and find new ways of communicating with one another.
12:40 p.m. Line up
Gather with the entire Camp in front of the lake (sitting with your bunk) to hear announcements about the rest of the day.
12:55 p.m. Lunch
1:55 p.m. Green Swim/Blue Rest Hour
Campers in male-identifying bunks swim during Green Swim. Once a week, each bunk can call home during rest hour on its assigned day using the Camp phones.
2:55 p.m. Blue Swim/Green Rest Hour
Campers in female-identifying bunks swim during Blue Swim. Once a week, each bunk can call home during rest hour on its assigned day using the Camp phones.
All campers and staff are required to complete a swim test at the beginning of the Summer, and we encourage to try swimming and developing your swim skills.
4 p.m. Activity/Dialogue
Same as above.
5:40 p.m. Community Action (and snack!)
Work with youth from your school or your city to identify an issue in your home community, and start making a plan on how to address that issue using your shared youth power and voice!
6:50 p.m. Line Up
Gather with the entire Camp in front of the lake (sitting with your bunk) to hear about the Evening Activity and the weather report for tomorrow.
7:05 p.m. Dinner
7:45 p.m. Field Time
Spend time connecting with other campers and Staff on the Field—sit quietly and read a book, play pickleball, practice a dance, etc.
8:30 p.m. Evening Activity
At the beginning of the Session, Evening Activities are led by Counselors or Facilitators. After a few days, Peer Supports campers will also design and lead activities with support from staff. Examples of Evening Activities include bunk nights, open mic nights, Camp-wide scavenger hunts, and cooking competitions.
9:30 p.m. Shower Time/Free Time
Each bunk is assigned access to the shower houses for 15 minutes to get clean. Some bunks have showers inside the cabin and for those which do not, shower houses with private stalls are a minute’s walk away.
10:45 p.m. Bunk Good Nights
Check in with your bunk, reflect on the day, and plan for the days ahead before falling asleep.
11 p.m. Lights out
Good night! You’ll fall asleep in your bunk bed to the calming sounds of the waves and the chirping of crickets.

Things to Know
Weather: Maine summers are usually sunny and beautiful, warm (75°F/24°C) during the day and often times very chilly (50°F/10°C) at night, so please pack accordingly! Though most days are sunny and beautiful, Maine can have very rainy and cold summers, so come prepared with a waterproof jacket and rain boots or waterproof shoes. Please pack items in a bag that the camper can carry alone.
Laundry: Camp has a laundry service do campers’ laundry once a week. Please label everything you bring with your name.
Bags: Please pack everything into a bag that the camper alone can carry. We have limited storage space at Camp.
Bedding, towels, linens: Towels and bedding will be provided—you do not need to bring sheets, towels, a sleeping bag, or pillows, though you can bring a towel (and teddy bear!) of your own if you choose.
Phones: Campers’ cell phones will be collected and stored when they arrive at Camp. If your phone doubles as your camera, please bring another way to take photos. Please note that there will be an on-site photographer capturing daily Camp life, and many campers choose to share those photos at the end of the summer. We may allow the use of cell phones a few times during the Camp session at predetermined times and following Camp cell phone use protocol. Check out photos from past summers on our Flicker account.
Phone numbers: Please write down on a piece of paper and bring a printed list of important phone numbers so you are able to call your family when you use Camp phones.
T-shirts: All campers wear the official Seeds of Peace t-shirt and sweatshirts throughout Camp (provided to all campers when they arrive). Do not bring your own t-shirts or sweatshirts. You can bring your own pajamas, and one set of your own clothing that represents your culture or your identity for a Camp special activity.
Shoes: Open-toed shoes (shoes showing your toes) are not allowed at Camp. Flip-flops are allowed only for showering. Please bring sneakers and sandals in which you can shower.
Medicine: If you take medicine regularly, note this in your medical form and bring it with you to Camp. All campers check in with the Camp Health Center on arrival, and medicines will be stored in the Health Center. Make sure you write your name clearly on the medications and that the name of the medicine and dose you need is also written clearly in your medicine bag.
Masks: Bring extra surgical masks or KN95 masks to use for the first few days of Camp. All campers must wear a KN95 or N95 mask when traveling to Camp, and keep the mask on for the duration of the flight or bus ride. See the CDC guide to masks for the latest guidance.
Money: There is no Camp store, and campers do not need to bring any money to Camp. Camp will have extra toiletries available (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, etc.) for campers who forget or need these items. Camp also has extra supplies including sneakers, extra sweatshirts, and rain jackets for campers who need them.
If you do not already own the items listed below and if you do not have the ability to buy any of them, that’s not a problem! Seeds of Peace can support you in providing the items. Please email camp@seedsofpeace.org so we can be sure you have what you need at Camp. We will not share your requests for financial support with other campers.

Clothing
Camp Clothing Overview, Created by Seeds (youth)
Participants should dress in a way that makes them feel comfortable, safe, and engaged, but must also wear clothes that adhere to the Seeds of Peace values of respect, peace, and equality. They should strive to dress in ways that are culturally sensitive out of respect for those coming from conservative societies and communities around the country and world.
Camp staff will use their best judgment in enforcing this dress code, ensuring that all participants are treated equitably regardless of gender identification or expression, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, body type/size, religion, and personal style.
Participants who wear clothing that does not adhere to the dress code will be asked to change into something else.
Dress Code Values
We want all participants to wear clothing of their choice that is comfortable and expressive, while also creating an equal playing field through our choice to use uniform t-shirts for all campers, counselors, staff, and facilitators. We also want our staff to be able to focus on their responsibilities at Camp without the additional and often uncomfortable burden of dress code enforcement.
Campers must wear:
- Seeds of Peace t-shirts and sweatshirts
- Bottoms
- Closed-toed shoes
Campers may wear:
- Clothing that makes them feel comfortable and able to engage fully in all Camp activities
- Clothing that expresses their self-identified gender
- Religious attire
- Hats with no symbols
Campers must not wear:
- Clothing that exposes private parts (including chest, rear, and abdomen) or a participant’s undergarments
- Clothing with any symbolism on it
- Clothing with images or language depicting violence, drugs, alcohol, hate profanity, or pornography
- Open-toed shoes (e.g.: flip-flops, sandals) unless in the shower
How to communicate with your camper
Mail them a letter
(Camper’s name)
Seeds of Peace Camp
183 Powhatan Road
Otisfield, ME 04270
Please do NOT mail packages—we will not be able to share them with campers. Only envelopes are acceptable. If you need to mail your camper additional medications or something else due to an emergency, call our Camp office and our Camp Director may approve specific requests.
Send them an email
Emails may be sent to campers@seedsofpeace.org to be printed and delivered to participants. Campers will not be able to check personal emails. You must write the First and Last name of the Camper in the subject line of each email to ensure delivery. Please do not write many one-line or short emails and please do not send more than one email a day. A longer email with actual content will mean much more to your camper than a one-line “Hi! We miss you!” email. Also, please do not send any photo attachments since we will not be able to print them.
Talk to a staff person
General Questions: If you are curious how your camper is doing or have other questions about Camp, call the Camp Office (207-627-7202) or our Camp Community Liaison Emily Umansky (516-474-7415).
If you have questions related to your camper’s physical or mental health, please reach out to our fantastic nurses at the Camp Health Center. They can be reached by email at healthcenter@seedsofpeace.org.
FOR EMERGENCIES ONLY: 207-291-6229
This line will be available 24/7. Please only call the emergency line if there is a serious emergency and you need to contact your camper immediately!
Other ways to engage
View photos from Camp updated daily on Bobbie’s Facebook page or Flickr, and read daily Camp Reports (coming soon).
How your camper can communicate with you
Your child will be able to call home three times during the Camp session. All campers will call a parent or guardian on the day after arrival, on Monday, June 27. We will create a camper phone schedule for each bunk and will share the phone schedule with parents/guardians over email at the start of the camp sessions.
- Phone call #1: Monday, June 27. All campers must use the phone time to call a parent/guardian. If your camper cannot reach you, we will help them try to call you again later in the evening or on the next day.
- Phone call #2: Between Thursday, June 30 and Sunday, July 3. We will email you the exact day and time your camper is assigned. Campers can choose to use the phone time, but do not have to.
- Phone call #3: Between Thursday, July 8 and Friday, July 9. We will email you the exact day and time your camper is assigned. Campers can choose to use the phone time, but do not have to. We encourage campers to become fully involved in creating relationships and experiencing Camp, so we offer three opportunities to make calls during the session.
The phone time schedule will also be updated here at the start of the session.
Packages
In 2022, packages will NOT be allowed at Camp for campers. If your camper forgot a critical item at home, or if your camper needs medications or the like mailed to them, exceptions may be made with special permission of the Camp Director or Camp Operations Director . We encourage you to send emails or letters to stay in touch with your camper. Camp will provide toiletries and extra clothing to campers who were unable to bring their own, so all basic needs will be taken care of. Camp also provides snacks to campers, so no food needs to be delivered to Camp.
Religious observation
Our interfaith coordinator Fiona is available to support campers and an inclusive interfaith environment at Camp. Fiona will post the prayer times and will support staff and campers in creating services following their faith tradition as outlined below. We are dedicated to creating an engaging interfaith learning environment where campers are able to practice their religion and to learn from the religious practice of others, whether campers are secular, observant, atheist, or agnostic.
Individual Prayer
Campers can be excused from an activity to pray with the permission of the staff leading the activity.
It is the responsibility of campers to keep track of prayer times and to set alarms if they would like to pray at different times during the day. We believe it is the individual responsibility of campers to fulfill their own religious obligations, and while we will offer opportunities for religious observance at Camp, it is not staff responsibility to ensure campers are praying.
There is a designated prayer room onsite, where everyone must take off their shoes before entering. It is the responsibility of campers and counselors to maintain this prayer space as respectfully as possible.
Services
Muslim services: We will hold group outdoor services in the afternoon on Fridays. During some weeks, a visiting imam may be able to lead the services. During other weeks, campers and staff who identify as Muslim will lead the services for each other.
Jewish services: We will hold group outdoor services in the evening on Fridays. During some weeks, a visiting rabbi may be able to lead the services. During other weeks, campers and staff who identify as Jewish will lead the services for each other.
Christian services: We will hold group Christian services in the morning on Sundays. During some weeks, a visiting pastor may be able to lead the services. During other weeks, campers and staff who identify as Christian will lead the services for each other, or watch a live-stream of Mass.
We also have the opportunity for the observation of other services, such as Hindu and Zoroastrian services, depending on campers’ needs each session.
Religious Dietary Concerns
All meat served at Seeds of Peace is halal, and no dishes mix meat and dairy. Vegetarian and vegan options are available at all meals. If your camper keeps kosher and would like to talk to our Food Services Director, please write to camp@seedsofpeace.org.
Medications
All medications must be labeled clearly and stored in the Camp Health Center. During camper arrival day, the Health Center nurses will review all camper medications and medication times, and we will keep track of medications using the CampDoc registration system.
Camper Supports
There is a 1:4 camper-to-counselor ratio within bunks, so counselors are never far away if a camper needs support or guidance. Campers have many other adult supports on Camp, including facilitators, other counselors who lead activities and programs, the Camp leadership team, and the medical team of nurses who are available to campers around the clock.
We also have a camper support specialist on site who is a Master’s in Social Work student and is supported remotely by an experienced licensed social worker. Our camper support specialist is dedicated to ensuring that staff have the tools they need to support campers, and is available for check-ins with campers as needed. Campers will be routinely encouraged to seek out the support they need to have a safe and meaningful summer experience.
All adult staff on Camp receive training in youth development, mandated reporting, CPR, sexual harassment, and concussion response.
Counselors are over the age of 20, and all Camp staff complete the Camp staff training in positive youth development, trauma-informed engagement, mandated reporting, activity design, and basic youth mental health supports.
All staff are mandated reporters. This means that if a camper shares something with a staff person that makes us concerned that a camper is at risk of child abuse (including neglect) at their home or elsewhere, we must report our concerns to the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.
If your child sees a psychologist, psychiatrist, or therapist, the mental health professional must fill out and submit the Mental Health Form Provider Form (“Health Form C” in CampDoc) or submit by email to camp@seedsofpeace.org.
If your child sees a therapist regularly, we encourage them to continue with virtual therapy when at Camp. Our camper support specialist can coordinate directly with you and the therapist so that the appointments are held during an appropriate time in the Camp schedule, and will support the camper in logging into a Camp laptop. If your child will be continuing virtual therapy at Camp, please email camp@seedsofpeace.org.
COVID-19 pre-Camp required testing
Review our updated COVID-19 protocols ››
All campers must be fully vaccinated, including booster if eligible, by June to participate in Camp.
As of May 2022, campers from Maine do not have to submit electronic results of antigen tests to Camp before Camp, although we highly encourage everyone to conduct at-home testing before coming to Camp. All campers will need to conduct antigen tests under the supervision of Seeds of Peace staff at the bus pick up site and/or upon arrival at Camp.
Campers will conduct antigen testing at Camp again on the fourth day of Camp, or if they are symptomatic.
Campers must wear KN95 or N95 on the bus to Camp.
On June 26, upon arrival at Camp, all campers will conduct rapid antigen tests administered by Camp Health Center before entering bunks and again during the session.
Emergency contact
The emergency contact phone number (the phone that the Camp Director or other on-duty leadership staff will always have on) will be updated here at the start of the summer.
Other Information
More information will be shared here as we get closer to Camp!
Camper Contract
All campers and Parents/Guardians signed the below Camper Contract during your registration for Seeds of Peace Camp. Please review again and make sure that your family has an emergency contact that can meet the camper for travel home from Camp in the event that the camper needs to be dismissed early due to behavioral, mental health, or COVID-19 concerns.
CAMPER CONTRACT
Seeds of Peace is a diverse and dynamic community made up of campers and staff of different racial identities, religious identities, gender identities, socio-economic backgrounds, cultures, and political backgrounds. Respect, honest communication, and the willingness to take risks and learn from others are the cornerstones of this community. Seeds of Peace strives to create a safe and healthy space for all campers, and for this reason, I understand that there have to be rules of behavior, which will help us create this kind of community.
• I understand that I am responsible for my own behavior during travel to Camp and during all Camp programs and activities. Activities include: participating in sports, arts, and swimming activities in an outdoor environment; sleeping in a shared cabin with other youth and adults; used shared bathroom and shower houses; participating in dialogue conversations with youth of different backgrounds; having limited access to phones and technology (no use of personal phone, options to call loved ones at pre-scheduled times three times throughout the session); walking between activities; cleaning and taking care of shared spaces including programmatic areas and cabins; eating meals in shared cafeteria and/or outdoors under tent; maintaining COVID-19 protocols (may include wearing a mask in certain situations, COVID testing before and after arrival).
• I understand that all of my medications, including over the counter medications, must be given to the Health Center staff upon arrival and stored in the Health Center.
• I understand that mental health is treated with real care and concern at Seeds of Peace. If Seeds of Peace Camp staff determine that I may be at risk of harming myself or others in the Camp environment, I will be sent home early with connections to local supports where available. Seeds of Peace will contact the parent/guardian listed in the camper’s registration in the event of early dismissal due to mental health concerns.
• I understand that all Seeds of Peace staff are mandated reporters, and therefore may contact the Maine Department of Health and Human Services if the Camp staff are concerned that the camper may be experiencing abuse or neglect in their home environment.
• I understand that Seeds of Peace does not tolerate inappropriate behavior and that I could be sent home early without reimbursement if I engage in any of the following:
- Smoking (of any kind, including e-cigarettes, vaping or juuls)
- Use of any drugs or alcohol
- Physical or emotional violence/abuse towards other campers and/or staff
- Unhealthy behavior that does not adhere to Camp COVID-19 protocols (including testing before arrival and after arrival, wearing a KN95 or N95 mask during travel, wearing a mask as determined during Camp, etc.)
- Disrespect of other campers and/or staff, camp property, or others’ personal property
- Entering cabins that are not the camper’s assigned cabin/bunk
Early dismissal reimbursement/travel procedures:
If a camper must be dismissed from Camp early due:
• To mental health concerns, the parent/guardian or designee (emergency contact) must be willing and able to pick up the camper in a private vehicle within 24 hours. If the camper flew to Camp, Camp will arrange travel home in coordination with the emergency contact. Seeds of Peace will provide partial tuition reimbursement prorated for the time not spent at Camp.
• To severe mental health concerns (requiring hospitalization), the parent/guardian or designee (emergency contact) must be willing and able to meet the camper at the hospital within 24 hours, regardless if the camper arrived at Camp via private vehicle, bus or flight. Seeds of Peace will provide partial tuition reimbursement prorated for the time not spent at Camp.
• To medical emergency (requiring hospitalization) in which the camper can no longer safely participate in Camp activities, the parent/guardian or designee (emergency contact) must be willing and able to meet the camper at the hospital within 24 hours, regardless if the camper arrived at Camp via private vehicle, bus or flight. Seeds of Peace will provide partial tuition reimbursement prorated for the time not spent at Camp.
• Positive COVID-19 test onsite, the parent/guardian or designee (emergency contact) is responsible for arranging pick up or travel offsite for the camper from Camp within 16 hours of testing positive. This means that the parent/guardian is responsible for travel in the event of a COVID-19 positive test. Seeds of Peace will provide partial tuition reimbursement pro-rated for the time not spent at Camp.
• Behaviors that are considered inappropriate for Camp as listed in this camper contract. The parent/guardian or designee (emergency contact) must be willing and able to pick up the camper in a private vehicle within 24 hours. If the camper flew to Camp, Camp will arrange travel home in coordination with the emergency contact. Seeds of Peace will not provide tuition reimbursement.
I understand that the Seeds of Peace program is focused on dialogue, community building, leadership development and action-taking across lines of difference and that it is located in a rural, outdoors area on a lake in Maine. I understand that I am coming to learn, to listen, and to engage with others.
