11 Girls, 8 Countries, 1 Idea BY Tanyel (Cyprus), Raya (Palestine), Shahrzed (Pakistan), Dana (Egypt), Adar (Israel), Sahar (Pakistan), Rita (Israel), Raya (Jordan), Rashna (India), Tayir ( Israel), and Weda (Afghanistan) Coming together through Seeds of Peace, a handful of girls from different conflict regions offer up their suggestions for how you can create a better world by promoting tolerance and understanding in your community.
  1. Find a pen-pal, either internationally or abroad.
  2. Start a club, any club (diversity, international, peace organization).
  3. Learn a foreign language, it's a window to a new culture. This can help you discover cultural similarities.
  4. Try to get on a foreign exchange program. Start by hosting someone from another country.
  5. Take a walk around your community and open your eyes to what you haven't seen before. Think about what your interests are and how you can contribute to your neighborhood.
  6. Volunteer at the local community youth center.
  7. Read your local newspaper and see if diversity issues are being covered.
  8. Submit articles to your school or community newspaper about cultural awareness in your city.
  9. Talk to local bands and ask them to speak about peace and community building at their shows.
  10. Watch documentary TV shows and movies like Peace of Mind.
  11. Find organizations like Seeds of Peace.
  12. Look in the mirror everyday and after seeing how beautiful you are, ask yourself what you have done to make your world a better place.
