Special Tax Benefits for IRA Gifts
The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 was signed into law by President bush on October 3, 2008. The Act renews a temporary provision that allows donors age 70½ or older to make a direct, tax-free rollover of up to $100,000 from a traditional or Roth IRA in 2008 or 2009.
A direct rollover will be much better for most donors than a taxable IRA withdrawal followed by a charitabe gift.
